DoNorth is a student-produced tourism magazine based on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The publication features high-quality writing, photography, and storytelling designed for a single mission: help visitors to the Adirondack Coast do north. 

DoNorth works in conjunction with the Adirondack Coast Visitor's Bureau to produce two issues annually—Winter/Spring, published in December, and Summer/Fall, published in May. It tells the North Country's stories through features, photo essays, and six departments: ADK Stay, What's Doin?, Champlain Tastes, Northern Archives, Open Air, and Lakeside Canvas. It has been rated as an All-American publication by the Associated Collegiate Press.

I originally joined the team in 2014 as a staff designer and writer for the 4th Issue of the magazine, I became the Associate Art Director for Issue 5 ( Fall 2015) and then became Art Director for the 6th Iusse (Spring 2015). In 2016, I worked a Section Editor and continued to design. In 2017, I took the role of Art Director once again and the Web/Social Media Director for Issue 9. 

 

Administrative Experience: 

• In charge of the production of the magazine as Art Director.

• Supervised designers as Art Director and Associate Art Director.

• Supervised writers and edit articles as a Section Editor.

• Supervised designers, social media, and web staff as Web/Social Media Director.

Design experience:

• Designed a variety of page layouts including sections, features and the covers. 

• Designed and created the section and section head for ADK Stay.

• Issued a magazine redesign as Art Director (Issue 6).

• Edited staff designs. 

• Wrote and designed guidelines and templates for the design and web sections of the magazine to ensure the consistency of future issues. 

 

Contacting, interviewing and writing articles:

• Created the magazine's book section; wrote the article for two issues.

• Wrote, took photos, and designed the article "Ghost of Miners Past" in the Northern Archive Section for Issue 6. The article tells the story of the old ghost town Tahawus in Essex County, New York. 

• Wrote the North Star feature article for Issue 7. North Star is a feature section highlighting one person who has contributed to the North Country. My article was about Soovin Kim, the widely know and talented violinist.

• Wrote the article for the 'ADK Stay' feature section for Issue 9. ADK Stay is a single article section that gives readers an idea of where to lodge at during their stay in the North Country

​​ Web/media:  

• In charge of the magazine's website and social media (Issue 9).

• Uploaded previous articles onto the website.

• Created social media posts on the magazine's Facebook and Instagram pages.

• Gain over 70 new Instagram followers in 4 months.
